Meet the Herd

At T.H.E. Center, every horse has a story and a heart as big as the valley we call home. These therapy partners have given so much to our community, and they will always have sanctuary here, surrounded by love and care. As a fully volunteer-run organization, every donation goes directly toward their feed, vet care, and wellbeing. So, when you give, you’re truly giving to the horses. Get to know the herd that makes everything at T.H.E. Center possible.

Liberty

Liberty may look white at first glance, but she’s actually a “flea-bitten grey,” with tiny tan freckles sprinkled across her coat. Known as the sweetheart of the herd, Liberty has a very special gift—she seems to know exactly who needs her most. She’s especially gentle with friends in wheelchairs, walking right up to nuzzle them for head scratches and pets. True to her name, she’s also worked with Veterans, offering calm comfort and connection. With her kind spirit and loving nature, Liberty makes everyone she meets feel like an instant friend.

Footsie

Footsie

Footsie might be the oldest lady in our herd, but she’s full of sass and spirit! She struts with an energetic walk, always trying to outpace her human leads, and when it comes to treats and carrots… let’s just say Footsie never hesitates to claim her share (and then some!). As a senior horse, she faces health challenges like Cushing’s disease and a rare condition that affects her eyelids, but thanks to our amazing volunteers, she’s spoiled with all the care and comfort she deserves. Nothing slows this girl down. Footsie knows what she wants and goes for it!

Romeo

Tall, charming, and oh-so-handsome, Romeo is the ultimate ladies’ man of the herd. The mares can’t get enough of him, often squabbling over who gets to be his girlfriend (though between us, his favorite is Footsie!). While he may have had a tough past that made him shy about people touching his ears, with love and patience he’s blossomed into a total sweetheart. These days, Romeo adores soaking up all the attention—from horses and humans alike.

Red

Red

Red is the youngest of our senior herd and a total beauty. When you visit, look for her signature beauty mark on her left shoulder! She’s a gentle sweetheart with a serious love for carrots, and at Coffee with Horses you’ll often catch her stretching her neck as far as it can go to snag every treat within reach. Her bestie-for-life is Footsie, and the two can usually be found side by side in their paddocks, happily “gossiping” the day away.

Austin

Austin is our brave protector and gentle friend. He learns quickly, especially if snacks are involved, and he takes such tender care of “his girls.” Nothing makes him happier than quiet grooming time, where he can relax and feel loved. He also enjoys meeting new friends and sharing his calm strength during lessons.

Sterling

Sterling is the sweetest soul — gentle, cautious, and endlessly curious. She loves her favorite ball and melts for chest scratches. Sterling is deeply bonded to her best friend, Bailey, and though she can be shy at first, her heart is huge and welcoming once she feels safe.

Bailey

Bailey is our shy beauty with the softest, watchful eyes. She trusts deeply and loves being close to Sterling, her best friend and safe place. With patient care and kindness, she’s learning that people can be trusted too — especially Bernie. Her favorite treat? Quiet time with Sterling and a big pile of hay.

In Loving Memory

This space honors the horses and animals who were once part of our herd and served our community with unconditional love. Each one touched countless lives—students, volunteers, families, and visitors—and helped create moments of connection, healing, and joy. Though they are no longer with us, their presence is still deeply felt. We carry them in our hearts and honor them every day by continuing the work they helped make possible.

Forever part of our herd.
