Our Story

Founded in 1984 by Teresa Wilhelm with just one student and one horse, T.H.E. Center, Inc. began as a humble vision to bring therapeutic horsemanship to children and adults with disabilities. Over the past 40+ years, our organization has lived many chapters, but one thing has always stayed constant: the transformative power of the human-animal bond. This thread weaves through every era and program, making T.H.E. Center a true cornerstone in the Hemet/San Jacinto Valley.
Our therapy horses have touched lives in countless ways; helping children with disabilities discover their full potential, supporting veterans as they learn to trust again, offering teens a sense of purpose, and giving seniors a place to connect and belong. Each story adds to the tapestry of healing and hope that has defined T.H.E. Center for decades.
Today, T.H.E. Center continues on as a fully volunteer-run organization. Our dedicated team spans all ages—from kids to seniors—working side by side to keep the ranch thriving and ensure its mission carries on for years to come. At the heart of it all are our four cherished senior therapy horses and three playful minis, who remind us daily of the joy, healing, and connection found in the bond between people and animals.
